Floor Lamp

This floor lamp is the result of a combination of design inspirations. A strong Japanese influence can be seen in the overall form with the size, and traditional joinery. I wanted to include a sense of the Midwest into the style, so I looked to the Prairie Style for the simple kumiko (the thin slats in the center) pattern. So, I guess you could say this is Far East meets Midwest. Wonderful Red Cedar was used to craft the lamp, and traditional Mulberry paper produces a soft, warm, and inviting glow. This makes a beautiful and tranquil space for you to relax and read a book, enjoy a conversation, or contemplate the meaning of life (over tea of course).
Each element of the lamp is brought to final shape and finish using a special handplane crafted to smooth softwood to a porcelain finish. This allows the true beauty of the wood to shimmer along with the light from the lamp.
This piece was a joy to create the first time, and it will be a joy to re-create it for you.
P.S. Flourescent bulbs are best to use in this lamp.
