This past weekend, Mitch Roberson of Furnitude, a blog dedicated to showcasing the best in hand-crafted studio furniture, made reference to my article, What Is Studio Furniture and Why Do I Need It?
I am greatly appreciative of Mitch for that mention. In a world of mass-produced products and over-consumed customers, it's a comfort to realize that there are still artists, craftspeople, and humans creating their work with passion, expression, love, and principle.
These folks strive to produce works of art and craft that not only express themselves as makers, but also express their ideals as people. Owning something crafted from these types of individuals will not only service these artists, it will also service the buyer.
These objects, with all of the love, passion, and personality put in to them, will reflect these qualities as they find a place in the daily lives of the collectors.
Mitch is one of these individuals. He not only crafts beautiful furniture at Human Hands Woodworking, but he carries his passion over in to his writing as well.
Potters, weavers, metal artists, woodworkers, painters, photographers, (the list could keep going) these people are in your community. They are there among you living their passions quietly and earnestly. They need an audience for their work. Take the time to find them and get to know them. Allow them to communicate their love for the work, and you come away a little better.
