Open Studio Classes

For many of us, the need for a creative endeavor was the beginning of our woodworking journey. In the beginning it's a primarily self-taught process. Hoping to glean what we can from books, magazine articles, and the occasional video, we go out to our shops (garages or basements for many of us) and attempt to put it all in to practice. This can be a slow and painfully frustrating path. The missing element being someone to personally guide us and offer tips and techniques not often portrayed in those articles and videos.

This is where the Open Studio Classes concept came from. Going from a self-taught hobbyist to having a seasoned Master Craftsman as my guide, I can understand the need for personal instruction to help uncover those hidden little secrets that make it all come together.

Whether you're looking to expand your knowledge of woodworking, or you're exploring a potential creative outlet, the Open Studio Classes offered at Adam King Studio can be your solution.

The Open Studio Classes have several options available to meet your needs:

Workshops

Each month a series of weekend workshops are available here at the studio, covering a variety of topics related to furniture making and antique restoration.

Individual Instruction

This is an ideal one-on-one setting, in a professional shop environment, for those looking to hone their current woodworking skills as well as learn new techniques. I will personally work with you at set times based on your schedule. There are two options available for Individual Instruction:

Project Based

Have you been putting off building the piece you've always dreamed of? If so, this is the Studio Class for you.
We work together, according to your schedule, to construct a piece of studio furniture, whether of your design or mine. I walk you through all of the stages of furniture making from start to finish. In the end you will have a beautiful project of your own as well as valuable information to enhance your future woodworking endeavors.
Cost: $75.00 per hour plus materials.

Skills Based

If you're looking to gain a good base of woodworking skills or build on the ones you have, this is the Studio Class for you. The Skills Based class is a block of instruction that covers all of the skills you desire to learn. You customize the lessons and schedule them according to the days and times that work best for you. This is a great opportunity to learn those elusive techniques that will enhance your woodworking.
Cost: $75.00 per hour

Distance Learning

If you can't make it to the Studio, but you need some personal one-on-one instruction, then this is the option for you. You will have direct access to me through email and phone. Using these and several other methods we will work together to guide and help you. Whether skills or projects, we can make it work for you.
Cost: $75.00 per hour.

Consultation and Design Services

If you need help with design, or you would rather have someone do the work for you, then consider the Design Services Option. Through a series of conversations, I will design a piece according to your specifications. All designs will then be subject to your final approval. Once approved, the designs will be shipped via Sketch Up email file. This file will contain a 3D rendering, measured drawings for each part and elevation, and a detailed materials list. Hand drafted designs are also available.
Cost: $300.00
Hand Draft: Additional $150.00
