I’ve mentioned, on a few occasions, the heritage and connection that our woodworking has with the past. (here and here. ) I now have an opportunity to work on a piece of my family’s history. This is the chair that my Great Grandfather used to frequent every day at our family’s furniture store. This is the chair from which he made deals, typed invoices, and generally ran the family business.

You can see the years of habitual use on every inch of the chair. You can even see where he liked to place his feet while sitting. The chair needs a little TLC and the casters are falling out of the legs. Other than that, I’m not going to do much else to it.

I never got the privilege of meeting my Great Grandfather, but from what I have been told, some mighty big shoes were resting on the legs of this chair. I can only hope to honor him through making his favorite chair useful again.

Diane! She's had it for some time now.
Thank You!
Adam, I've had my grandpa's old office chair stored in the garage for about 5 years not wanting to part with it. It's broken and not useable. Now I have a great project thanks!

Thank you Jeff. It is always an honor when we can help preserve pieces of our past and our heritage. Send me some photos when you're done. Great turnings, by the way. Keep it up.
